You
know ! December 1St is the world AIDS day , I was surfing some
websites , so I came cross one which asking what are you going to do regarding
AIDS issue in it's annual day….so I'd liked to participate by increasing
awareness regarding this disease.
First
of all the term "AIDS" stands for "acquired immune deficiency
syndrome " and it's an advanced
stage of the disease in HIV positive people , I mean the people who are
infected by the virus which called "human immunodeficiency virus" (HIV),
this virus from the medical view is a retrovirus which means it's an RNA virus
and has the ability to reverse its RNA component to DNA component by using
what's know as a reverse transcriptase enzymes.
When
we talk about it's ways of transmission from
one to another, we can mention the sexual intercourse way which's the most
common, and through using shared razor of infected person , also through the
blood and blood products which include blood transfusion, IV drug users , and
though occupational contaminated needle exposure, it's also transmitted
vertically from the mother to the fetus if they are not treated, but it's not
transmitted through casual contact like
kissing , shared utensils, or toilet seats .
The
virus is affecting some specific cells according to some interactions between
the virus and certain receptors on those cells which help the virus attaching
and entering that cells , the cells include CD4 T helper cells , macrophages
and neural dendritic cells , once the
virus enter the cells it starts to replicate rapidly to increase it's number,
macrophage and dendritic cells act as a reservoir to the virus while the CD4 T
helper cells being the victims , destruction of those cells leading to lose the
"acquired immunity", the
immunity which being acquired through the exposure to the offenders, ultimately
this result in suppression of the immune system , this makes the body easily
attacked by opportunistic infections and some types of cancers.
Prevention
is the most useful way of fighting the virus and disease, this is through
education about the virus and the disease also through safe sex measures ,
screening pregnant women , through screening blood donation , and drug
prophylaxis in case of needle exposures.

hi
ReplyDeleteElhamdolillah aids isnt a big issue here in Libya, i know if u talk to a doc hell probably say otherwise, that he has come across this and has seen that, but they dont see the picture as a whole and should contrast that to the libyan population, so overall i think as a percentage there isnt much fright of the disease unlike hepataitis which may be transmitted by easier means than that of aids. thanks for writing this blog and the effort u made into it ... we are part of teh world but they have our days and we have ours..

Yes indeed, AIDS is not big issue in libya, but we should wait to become a big problem, like hepatitis are really so annoying and we have to do something about.
ReplyDeletethanks for your visit.
